Ever went shopping for clothes and took your time to gander at the labels? More often than not you’ll probably see the same three words on the tag: “Made in China.” Sometimes it varies from product to product. Some might read “Made in Mexico” or “Made in Taiwan”, however, it’s highly unlike to be “Made in the USA.”

It hasn’t always been this way, and frankly, it shouldn’t be. Not long ago, many or even most products on store shelves were American-made. But since the late 1990s, American manufacturing and many U.S. companies moved their factories to places like China and Mexico because of the cheaper labor, which means more profit.

However, this seems to be changing again. Reports indicate that American manufacturing jobs and more than 300 companies have moved production back to the United States since 2010, creating about 240,000 new jobs. So it seems that we might be looking at a return from that “Made in America” label.

Reasons to Buy American-Made Products

Jobs for Years to Come

Building manufacturing companies in America is extremely important for our children and grandchildren. This will help so that they can build a life for themselves and provide for their families.

Manufacturing in the USA means guaranteed jobs for thousands of people. Unlike buying foreign, the more money that is invested in buying American-Made products, the more money will get put back into manufacturing American-Made goods. As this happens, the manufacturing sector will in term grow. If the demand for American-made products increases, more people will need to create those American-made products.

Promotes American Independence

We as Americans have pride in our country and the products that we make. Being hooked on another country’s exports is counterintuitive to our sense of independence. We need to end our reliance on the exports of other countries and take back our independence by making and buying American-made products.

Better for the Environment

With the newest technologies available we can make sure that manufacturing processes in the USA cleaner, renewable, and eco-friendly practices. If we invest in American-made products, we can be sure to set high environmentally friendly standards for our generation, and the ones to come.

Support American Businesses

American manufacturing means investment in the American economy. If we keep investing strongly in our economy, the more we’ll see the benefits in the long run. Growth in manufacturing and investment opportunities go hand in hand.

Guaranteed Quality of Goods

Cheap products made in foreign countries may be held to low standards compared to our American Made products. There’s no guarantee that what we’re getting is indeed a quality good that will last. If you take into account the cost per use, was the foreign product really worth it?

Safer and Fair Working Conditions

It’s no secret that foreign manufacturing is cheap mainly because of the working conditions and the low wages that employees have to endure. However, in the United States, we have Labor Laws that take care of the employee’s in every way. If we cut back on buying from foreign manufacturers we can stop supporting these violations against workers abroad. Government acts like OSHA oversee safe working conditions in the manufacturing industry. There are controls and regulations in place to minimize accidents while granting rights to employees.

Helps to Reduce the Deficit

The incredible trade deficit and its significant growth rate is a huge problem that America has been dealing with for some time now. Investing in American-Made products will help the growth of the American economy, which, in turn, will reduce the deficit.
